The Nodes are the points at which the Moon's path around the Sun intersects the ecliptic (the path of the Sun). When the Moon crosses the ecliptic from south to north this is the ascending node otherwise known as the North Node. When the Moon crosses the ecliptic from north to south this is the descending node otherwise known as the South Node. The Node points are always retrograde, i.e. apparently moving backwards and are slow in moving. They will always be directly opposite one another. Together they represent the path of the soul through karma.
North Node The North Node is also known as the Dragon's Head. This is considered fortunate or helpful. It is also considered to be the life's path that should be followed. The North Node is said to represent the present karma and how it should be furthered. It shows where the subject is heading, although it may be made difficult by challenges and obstacles to be overcome. It is where we have to strive to continue on our path, but the rewards are good fortune.
South Node The South Node is also known as the Dragon's Tail. This is considered unfortunate or hindering. It is also considered to be the karma from which one has derived. The South Node is said to represent the abilities and habits brought forward from the previous lifetime. It shows where the subject has come from, bringing with it characteristics which may be best left behind. It is to these habits and maybe undesirable traits that we tend to fall. |
